Medical Benefits Abroad
For Companies Based in the United States
The Medical Benefits Abroad (MBA) program is designed for international business travelers. It provides coverage if you have an accident or become ill while you are on an approved business trip for your employer outside your country of residence or permanent assignment. The MBA plan generally covers the reasonable and customary (R&C) charges associated with your accident or illness, according to the norms in the country where you receive care. The plan covers the R&C charges for medically necessary care. CIGNA International has many years of experience in this field and generally determines appropriate charges without significant delay. Before you leave on an international business trip, your employer will give you an MBA travel documents folder. This will include a Group ID card, which will include your company's name (but not your name) and also your company's policy number. Please hold on to this ID card and keep it handy in case you need medical service. However, please also know that we can and will serve you effectively and quickly even if you can't find the card. With CIGNA International as your health care provider, you have entered a world of specialized services designed to give you answers and access wherever you are in the world. Anytime you call our International Service Centre, these services are available to you: Access to medical advice and consultation via telephone from your locationMedical appointment and hospital admission assistance (outside the U.S.)Medical monitoring (outside the U.S.) Case management (inside the U.S.)Case management (inside the U.S.)Many providers are willing to accept our guarantee of payment for higher dollar medical expenses; they will then file the claim for your treatment, and receive payment directly from us. Contacting our International Service Centre will effectively remove you from the pay-and-claim loop and avoid possibly significant charges on your credit card. For smaller medical expense - such as filling a prescription - you may be required to pay the provider and file a claim for reimbursement. The claim form is located in your travel documents folder; it is also available on the CIGNA International website, in the Forms Center. You may file your claim with us by mail or by fax; our standard practice is to pay non-complex claims within ten days of receipt. We can reimburse you in a wide variety of currencies, using paper cheques or electronic transfers. Q. Can my CIGNA International MBA card be used worldwide? A. Yes.
